On June 23 and June 24, 2015, CHU offered a medical translation trainer course aimed at improving the global medical business infrastructure on Jeju by training people in medical translation. A total of 27 people successfully completed the course. This course focused not only on how to communicate with foreign patients at medical clinics here and the development of medical tourism, but also offered a way to systematically improve the basic translation capabilities of medical service personnel on Jeju, and helped industry employees become more professional in their dealings with foreign medical patients. CHU's Healthcare Division and the Korea Healthcare Professionals Development Center hosted the course for the first time this year, which attracted a great deal of interest from the participants in the classes, and is expected to lead to improvements in the quality of medical translation on offer in Jeju. Im Jinhyeong, director of the Professor Training Support Center at CHU, said "thanks to this program, our university has been able to contribute to the improvement of the educational infrastructure and quality of existing personnel in the medical translation industry in Jeju, and we were able to improve the basic structure of medical translation training in the province. We expect further such programs in the future to continue to help professors improve their training skills in regards to medical translation, through research and development in the field. Graduates from the program will make contributions to the medical tourism industry's development in Jeju, help to train others in medical translation through special classes, and provide education at special medical translation facilities.
